We ought to learn from Him and keep in mind that it is second only to the greatest commandment. Even Jesus took pity on His own afflicters and pleaded for their forgiveness to God. We are to love other people because they bear the distorted image of God. That is the same reason behind the second greatest commandment.
Man has no right to destroy the image of God which was installed in man by God. Murder is destroying the image of God and it is a direct offence against God. That is the reason why God has commanded not to murder. Even though every person in this earth is born with sinful nature, the distorted image of the God remains in them. The image was perfect before the fall, but after the fall it is not completely destroyed, however it was distorted. God has not given his image to any other living creature or non living one. The image of God is the reason that man is the pinnacle of God’s creation. I learnt that we are to obey this command because God has commanded this one and the reason behind this one is that every human being is made in the image of the God. It was about the second greatest commandment “ Love thy neighbor as yourself” Luke 10:27. Yesterday I was reading a post in Pyromaniacs. Genesis 1:26, 27 (emphasis added) Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image in the image of God He created him male and female He created them.
